We distinguish between CarryFlat and CarryActual within range data. Each player will have the option to convert the ball data during a session.
When the ball data is not converted, we will measure the CarryActual data. Any wind taken into effect, will be the from the actual wind effecting the actual data.
When a player chooses to convert the data to a premium ball data, instead of measuring CarryActual, we measure CarryFlat.
To calculate the premium ball we convert the launch conditions (speed, spin, launch) to what a pro ball should do and simulate that trajectory. Converted shot will use the measured launch numbers from the Tracker, but the trajectory will be simulated based off the above parameters (that does not include wind or temperature)
The type of range ball you use on your range will be plotted into our system, so the system determine the conversion rate between the type of range ball you use and a premium golf ball.
Flat carry vs. actual ball flight
The reason you are seeing shorter distances when using conversion is due to how the system calculates flat carry. The system reports the horizontal projection of the carry distance, not the full arc or slope distance. Because your range is downhill, the flat carry value will always appear shorter than the actual flight you see. I have attached a drawing that explains this concept.
Converted vs. non-converted data
You need to decide at the time of recording whether you want data in converted format or not. Conversion requires the club type to process correctly, and therefore the system cannot convert shots after the fact.
- When playing virtual golf, the ball data is always converted.
- When using the practice function, data will only be converted if you enable it for that session.
