Server Rack Overview

This article explains the role of the server rack and describes each of its components. Please refer to the numbers in the image. Below the image, you will find an explanation of what each number represents.

What is the Server Rack?

  • Used to store, organize, power, and connect all IT equipment in a central system.
  • Ensures efficient connectivity, simplifies maintenance, and protects equipment through proper structure and airflow.
  • Distributes internet across the facility, connects radars and touchscreens, runs the Trackman system (tracking and simulation), processes data through servers, and maintains continuous operation using a UPS.
  • Some larger venues may use two server racks depending on size and system demand, although this is relatively uncommon.

Components of the Server Rack

1. APC Unit (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

  • Keeps the system running during power outages.
  • The display shows load and battery status.
  • Essential for preventing crashes and data loss.

2. Render Server (black or silver grill)

  • Handles virtual golf courses and simulation graphics.
  • Responsible for visual output in the bays.

3. Range Server

  • Handles ball tracking and radar data.
  • Manages bay targets and radar positioning.

4. Dream Machine

  • Provides internet and network access.
  • Acts as a router, firewall, and network controller.
  • Connects the entire system to the external network.

5. Trackman Switch

  • Dedicated access network for users.
  • Connects bay touchscreens and local devices.
  • Distributes internet to the screens.

6. Blank Panel (Cable / Fiber Management and Airflow)

  • Improves airflow inside the rack.

7. Blue Planet Switch (Optic Fiber)

  • Connects to radars via fiber optics.
  • Handles high-speed communication.
  • Serves as the backbone connection for tracking data.
